Developmental Dialogues
What are Developmental Dialogues?
Parents are always searching for the best way to raise children. Since its inception in 1991, The Pacella Parent Child Center has successfully helped parents understand that “There is not just one right way to be a parent!”
Books and instructional guidance only go so far. In our Parent Child Groups, mothers who come with their young children are helped to feel confident and to develop their own distinctive parenting skills. Group discussions with our psychoanalysts, who are experts in development, help mothers decide what is best for them and their families. With the expansion of The Pacella Parent Child Center, we now extend our philosophy and services to families with children through age 12. We are now offering Developmental Dialogues:
A free-of-charge meeting with one of our psychoanalysts.
Developmental Dialogues are individual discussions between parents and a psychoanalyst, to address normal issues facing parents as their children grow and change. Our psychoanalysts are experts on child development, parenting and on the interaction between children and parents.
We invite parents to meet and discuss the subject most critical to them:
- Pregnant mothers and their partners about the upcoming changes in their lives.
- Parents of infants about their children's feeding, sleeping, and regulation patterns.
- Parents of toddlers about their children's beginning autonomy, assertiveness, language, mastery of the body, toilet training, and limit-setting/discipline.
- Parents of older children about siblings, entering nursery school and elementary school, activities, watching television, homework, learning issues, and peers.
- Parents of pre-adolescents about the beginning of bodily and social changes.
- All parents about the impact of family events as well as family crises on children.
- At the end of the visit, the parent and the psychoanalyst may decide that future meetings together would be helpful and also discuss the other programs available.
